Scientists recently announced the existence of a third major collection of
plastic garbage in the Indian Ocean. Plastic trash swirls around in gyres, which are powerful rotating currents in the world's major oceans. Except none
of these areas are actually garbage patches.

After traveling 130 days and 8,000 miles, the Plastiki sailed in to Sydney earlier today, ending the trek to bring attention to the problem of plastics in our ocean.
