Is a tree hugger a hippie?Is it someone who cares and states their opinion or someone who likes animals better becuase their less fortunate and need more help then some people? I thought a tree hugger was someone who was all into saving the enviroment and could careless about anything else.I just care about living and watching to see what happens next.

i think a tree hugger is someone obseessed with trees and wont let no buider cut them down!!!

I am a tree hugger. They are our friends. Without trees and bushes and flowers it would be hard to breathe.
I think “tree hugger” is a derogatory term meant to be insulting. People who care about the enviroment would probably prefer to be called environmentalists.
It’s an environmentalist who wont allow anyone to cut down the trees. They got that name when they chained themselves to trees that are scheduled to be cut down, either for lumber or just to make a clearing for construction.
Well, I just got back from a hike in the woods and I sure love the trees and the birds, and I suppose I have some hippie in me. I am very serious when it comes to the consequences that we may soon bring down upon us if we don’t take care of the trees, because they take care of us by sucking up CO2 and freshening up our atmosphere with O2.

It is someone who thinks that trees are more important than human life. How’s that?
The term “tree hugger” has come into use due to the fact that extreme environmentalist groups would do defiant acts such as live in old growth trees schedule for cutting, chain themselves to trees, damage forest cutting equipment, etc. The term is generally used derisvely. However there are groups of people who embrace the term “tree hugger” , just as some embrace the terms, “right winger”, “red neck”, etc.
